MSSQL Database Administrator

We are seeking a MSSQL Database Administrator with Windows Sever Administration skills to assist MSSQL/Windows platform in Enterprise Application Group.

Details:
This position will be part of a talented team that is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, growth and deployment of a large scale servers running primarily on Windows Server & MSSQL Server. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with strong work habits and have mid-level career experience in maintaining large numbers Windows Server and MSSQL Databases. This experience should be rolling out deployments, maintaining, upgrading, replacing and setup monitoring and improving the long-term performance of the systems which is affected to entire global operations of Virtusa|Polaris.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems or computer science.

Experience:
2+ years of experience in the IT industry

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Test backups to ensure we can meet the business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimise false alarms
  • As new systems are brought in-house, choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, or other technologies
  • Install and configure new SQL Servers
  • Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors
  • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
  • Document the company’s database environment perspectives.
  • Extensive system administrator experience with Windows Server 2008/2012 Platforms.
  • Extensive experience running Application Servers such as IIS, Tomcat, JBOSS etc.
  • Must be able to determine when a server is in a "distressed" state, e.g. network performing badly, short of swap space, short of RAM, overloaded CPU, and overloaded I/O subsystem. Understand how to gather more information and recommend a solution.
